A close raccoon, some very fat raccoons, and four cute cubs

This raccoon is getting very comfortable with me putting the food out. It's waiting and watching for me, and only about 4 feet away when it starts eating. It will be knocking me out of the way soon!!!!

Four cute raccoon cubs getting more and more active every night.

We also have some very fat raccoons (Jabba the Hutt????)

Raccoons, fox and Bravo bread. And a wren checks the empty bird box.

We ended up with far too much bread from Bravo - so the animals had a treat, and it seemed they all enjoyed it. Raccoons and fox.

Two days after the chickadees left, a wren is checking the bird box.

A busy day......

Yesterday was a busy day. The chickadees left the nest, a raccoon sat in the tree near the back door until I put some seed out, and even a snake made a slither for it.

All the animals seem to hide under the shed - including this snake!!!
(I've not included a picture of the snake - but we do have video)

Four raccoon cubs!!! And ever bigger chickadee chicks.

The chickadee chicks are almost as big as the parents. Spend each night on their own in the nest box. I suspect that they will be out of the nest soon.

Another visitor, chick wing spread, and left alone all night

The chicks were left in the nesting box on their own over-night.  Fed just before dark and then again this morning.  Guess they are getting closer to fledging as can be seen from the feathers. Parents are still feeding all day.   Another visitor stopped by - but didn't do anything....

Tamer raccoon, bigger chicks and unwelcome visitors.....

The little chicks are getting bigger - see the wing span!! Two non-chickadee visitors - but they looked in and left!!!

The raccoon was waiting for me to put the seed out and seems to be more comfortable with me - running in before I've even got back to the house.

This raccoon is waiting for me to fill the seed trays every afternoon - and isn't too worried if I move closer and chat to it. Not sure it understands me - but it is willing to tolerate me!!!!

Chickadee breakfast and a friendly raccoon....

The chickadee chicks enjoying breakfast - made it through another day!!! The eyes should open between day 9 and 11 after hatching. The first egg hatched on May 8th - so any time now!!! Lots of feathers coming in.
YouTube Video https://youtu.be/E3Wk-7NO_-Q

This raccoon is getting very comfortable with me. It knows what time I put the food out and came to the trays while i was still about 8 feet away. Carefully kept an eye on me - but wasn't worried.

Another good day for the chicks and raccoons owning the backyard

The two rescued chicks got through another day - hopefully this will continue. They are getting bigger and getting feathers.

The raccoons definitely own the backyard. One was almost coming to meet me as I out the seed out, and later the fox spooked the raccoons and then the raccoons spooked the fox!!

Second email - but brighter subjects.....

A happier email......

A very relaxed raccoon yesterday, waiting for me to put the food out.  It was at the trays before I even reached the back door, and was quite happy to feed while I watched.  This cat hasn't been seen for a while - but I think Janie wants to adopt!!  The Humming birds are now regulars.

Not a good day for the chickadees....

Yesterday was not good for the chickadees.   Two start at the end - we still have two chicks!!!

The nest was attacked by a wren.  All four chicks were moved from the main nest area, and then three were taken out of the nest box.  I found one on the ground - still alive - and put it back in the box and moved both remaining chicks back into the main nesting area.

The mother returned and is feeding them.  Just hope the wren doesn't return!!!
The YouTube video shows what happened - but don't watch if you don't want to see the mean wren!!!!!       https://youtu.be/BeZD7_GG1Ug

A busy time - birds and the fox

The chickadee mother defended the nest - two camera angles show what happened. The she cleaned out the dead chick.

Nice video of a hummingbird in flight.

This bird was a little confused - they often drink the water by the support (a trap to keep insects away) - but this one was drinking the hummingbird nectar!!!

The chickadee chicks this morning - looking strong!!!

The fox overnight.

A funny and sad day in the chickadee nest. And out first hummingbird of the year.

A funny and sad day in the chickadee nest. First, the mother has an interesting way of keeping the nest clean - eating the poop!!! Second, the mother seemed to knock one of the chicks out of the nest and then leave it to die..... Now down to four chicks.

Then we saw our first hummingbird of the year!!!!

Chickadee chick update

The five chicks seem to be doing well - their parents are feeding them non-stop. (There is still the un-hatched egg at the bottom of the nest.)

Five chicks, one eggs hasn't hatched....

This sequence shows the male chickadee feeding the female - who then sees the male fly off - and then goes back to the chicks. They are rapidly growing. Major difference in one day. Five eggs out of the six have hatched.

Overnight two raccoons made themselves scarce when the coyote came in.

This picture shows the difference in the chicks in one day!!!

Now four hatchlings and the raccoon & possum love of pineapple....

The possum loves the pineapple as much as the raccoons and is not going to share with the three raccoons.

Two hatchlings - with the third egg breaking open, then three mouths with the fourth under the three. So, four so far.
